Fall is finally here, and the leaves seem more beautiful than ever.  My garden is winding down for the year, but here is what happened in October:

  • Fall vegetables are here!  We’ve had plenty of beets, carrots and butternut squash this month.
  • Sweet potatoes were a successful experiment – we have already started some new ones in hopes of more next year.
  • Tomatoes had a good run.  I’ve got the last bowl of cherry tomatoes in the fridge, and 24 pints of canned tomatoes on the shelf.  They look so cute I almost don’t want to eat them.
  • Herbs are done for the season too.  Moving them to a little area outside the back door was a good move this year.  We cut big bunches of Basil and hung them up to dry (which smells great).  The Rosemary should go into hibernation and be back in the Spring.

We are still working out the kinks with the greenhouse .. it was often too hot in there this summer, but now it goes down to 50 degrees.  I’m worried that my lemons and limes aren’t going to make it!
