I was a part of this recent piece with Erin Moriarty on CBS Sunday Morning, “Battle for a Living Wage.”  (You can catch me around the 5:45 mark).

The piece is about the movement to raise the minimum wage to a “living wage” of $15/hour.  My contribution was to take a look at the budget for a minimum wage worker, Nancy.  With fairly low expenses, she’s probably doing better than most, but is unable to put aside money for emergencies.

It’s an important and complicated issue.  I believe that hard working people should be able to support themselves and their family.  At the same time, I know from experience that the way to make more money is to make yourself more valuable.  I had a minimum wage job, but that was long ago.  I wish the best to Nancy and her family.
