We’re Not Ready, But It’s Happening Anyway

We moved into a new house a few months ago, and for the first time ever, we have a pool. Swimming pool was not even on my list of priorities when we were house hunting last Fall, but with three kids and a dog, I knew we would use it.

Summer is just around the corner, and the excitement has been building for weeks.

Our new pool guy took off the cover that had been there all winter, and added chemicals to some very cloudy water. He came back a few days later to test and clean.

We started checking out the pool with the kids (little ones can’t open the gate to the fenced in area) at least twice a day. We ordered up some pool furniture and floaties, swept up the leaves and debris around the pool. The water gradually cleared.

The kids could hardly contain their excitement! The first day the pool was “ready” was sunny, but only 54 degrees! I tried to talk them out of it, but they could not resist!

That water was c-c-c-o-o-o-l-l-l-d-d-d-!

They didn’t stay long, and we all had some hot chocolate after. They had a great time and can’t wait to go back.

It reminded me of so much happening in the country right now. We’re not ready to reopen – this virus is highly contagious; we haven’t done enough tests and there is no vaccine. But the sun is shining, the curve is flattening, and we miss our friends!

We are still warily staying home. But a lot of people out there can’t seem to wait any longer, and are venturing out (masks on, no hugs please!). We are hoping for the best.

It also reminds me of our financial planning work. We hope for the best, but also try to prepare for the worst by encouraging an emergency fund, insurance protection, cashflow management and investment diversification. Financial planning helps our clients protect themselves and the ones they love, but there are still risks we cannot avoid. But we take comfort in the fact that we can provide value to our clients, and we really are all in this together.

Please reach out if you need to talk about your financial plan. Take care and enjoy the holiday weekend.
