As you get ready to spend quality time with family near or far over the holidays, it can be a good time to check in with your loved ones about their estate planning and financial security.
If you have older parents, you want to make sure they have important legal documents in place and that you know where to find those documents. It’s also a good idea to make sure that they are financially secure, especially as they approach the age where they might require long term care.
If you have adult children, ask if they have their documents in place as well. Any adult 18 or older should have at least a healthcare proxy and a power of attorney. If you have grandchildren, there should be a comprehensive plan in place for who would take care of them if the parents were to unexpectedly pass away. Estate planning can even make a great gift for your loved ones!
